Dear Friend of the Department of Geodesy & Geomatics Engineering at UNB: (Again, we are trying to contact as many alumni as possible, therefore we apologize for any cross-postings).
Firstly, I would like to thank you for your involvement in the Department.
We’ve been teaching the undergraduate degree now for 50 years, making 2010 our golden anniversary year! Thank you for being part of those 50 years!
To help celebrate our 50 years, we’re having a number of special activities throughout the year, and the one I want to bring your attention to is our major event in October. On October 28 and 29, 2010, the annual “Geomatics Atlantic” conference is taking place in Fredericton at the Delta hotel (straight after an ESRI User Conference also at the hotel) and we’ve arranged three special events around that conference.
We have a special session at the conference. The final afternoon session on Friday, October 29 is our session! We’ll have presentations looking at the history of the department, and other presentations looking forward to our future. A “Call for Papers” is attached to this email in case you would like to present a paper at the conference.
On Saturday, October 30 we will have an Open House in the Department. Details are being finalized now, but this will certainly include a display of our current research accomplishments and tours of the research labs. Further details of our Open House will come later on our own website, gge.unb.ca.
And...on the evening of Friday, October 29, right after the Geomatics Atlantic conference, again at the Delta Hotel in Fredericton, we will have a gala reunion event. We’re arranging for entertainment from local musicians, and food prepared by the hotel. We’ll be showing a video made entirely by our current graduate students, and hopefully a humorous skit too. At the gala, we will also be launching a book–By Any Measure: A History of Surveying and Geodesy at the University of New Brunswick– written by Wendy Wells. You can learn more about the book and how to order it here: http://www.cig-acsg.ca/english/index_misc_file/UNB-May2010.pdf.
There’ll also be an introduction to a number of previous Chairs of the department who we hope will be able to attend. There is a cost involved to cover our expenses of $40, and booking for this gala reunion event can be made on the Geomatics Atlantic website at: http://www.geomaticsatlantic.com/registration
I really hope you’ll be able to come to these reunion events, and hopefully the conference too. We want to make this year – our 50th year – a year to remember!
Sincerely,
Peter Dare, Chairman,
Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering
